Prices and Charts
We have 3 information packed articles we’ve written this week. So we’ll keep the content of todays email brief.
It’s All About the Breakout
This week NZD gold broke above $1900 for a new 2018 high. As you can see in the chart this also nudged gold above the red downtrend line.
However with the price pulling back sharply today it may be too soon to call this a conclusive breakout.
We won’t ramble too much about this here as we cover this topic in one of this weeks articles below: NZ Dollar Gold Breakout About to Happen?
Silver in New Zealand dollars also touched the multi-year downtrend line this week. Before also turning back down. So we are still looking for a conclusive move above $24.50. The US dollar silver chart (bottom of the below chart) shows this wedge formation getting very very compressed. So a breakout looks very close.
The same article mentioned above also looks at the timing of a possible silver breakout.
NZ Dollar Ready To Bounce
The NZ dollar is doing just the opposite of the local gold and silver prices. Getting very close to downside support levels at 0.68, the Kiwi looks ready for a bounce higher.
Unsure About Any Terms We Use When Discussing the Charts?
Check out this post if any of the terms we use when discussing the gold, silver and NZ Dollar charts are unknown to you:
However in the longer term, some research from Deutsche Bank highlights that the New Zealand dollar is the most expensive of the major currencies across the planet right now.
If they’re right the Kiwi could weaken further long term.
Check that out. You’ll also see a simple approach to hedging yourself if the NZ dollar is to weaken in the long run…

The Latest on the NZ Housing to Gold Ratio and More
Have you heard of the Housing to Gold Ratio?
It’s a way of measuring the price of the median house in gold rather than dollar terms.
We’ve calculated the current ratio here in New Zealand and also look back to how it compares to the past.
Plus this post also looks at the Dow/Gold ratio and the Gold/Silver Ratio.
